If you’re responsible for sourcing Metso crusher wear parts—liners, mantles, cheek plates—for a mine or aggregate operation, you’ve probably noticed something: the quote looks straightforward, but the total cost never is.
I manage purchasing for a mid-size crushing contractor. I’m not an engineer. I’m the person who places the PO, tracks delivery, and answers to operations when a component doesn’t fit. This guide is for people like me: the ones who don’t design the circuit but have to keep it running.

Before you request a quote, check the serial plate. Write down the full model number, year of manufacture, and serial number. If the tag is worn, take a photo. Some operations paint over their tags during annual maintenance. Don’t assume.

A non-genuine liner’s wear profile might not align with what the software expects, throwing off your CSS (closed side setting) readings.
I’m not saying aftermarket parts are bad. I’m saying if your operation relies on automation—and most do—you want parts dimensionally certified to OEM drawings. Metso publishes technical specifications for OEM parts. Ask for a dimensional report. If the supplier hesitates, that’s a red flag.

Most Metso cone crusher mantles are manganese steel (Mn18Cr2). But for impact crushers, Metso uses different grades depending on the rotor configuration and feed material. A common mistake I see is people ordering “standard manganese” for an impact application where they need martensitic steel.
Check the OEM part number. If you’re buying from a wholesaler, ask for the material certificate. A legitimate supplier will provide it. If they say “It’s the same stuff,” walk away.

If you’re running an IC70C controller, your cone crusher is probably monitored for power draw, pressure, and oil temperature. The system adjusts the crusher’s settings automatically based on feedback.
Non-genuine wear parts sometimes have a slightly different weight distribution. Enough to throw off the balance. The IC70C might compensate by reducing throughput, which you’ll interpret as a performance issue. The problem isn’t your automation—it’s the part.
When sourcing a mantle or bowl liner, ask specifically: “Has this part been tested with IC70C?” If the supplier doesn’t know what IC70C is, find someone who does.
Checkpoint: Parts supplier confirms compatibility with IC70C or provides documentation.
Metso has an official dealer network. That’s your first stop for genuine parts. But here’s a trick I picked up: call two different official dealers in your region and get separate quotes. I’ve seen price differences of 15-20 percent between authorized dealers for the same OEM part. The reason? Different freight costs, inventory levels, and whether they account for the dealer discount correctly.
If you have a long-term relationship with one dealer, still get a second quote annually. It keeps both honest.
Checkpoint: Minimum two quotes from authorized dealers. Compare not just price, but lead time and shipping terms.
“Six to eight weeks” is a placeholder. I’ve seen it stretch to 12 because the foundry batch didn’t pass QC. For critical wear parts—like a cone crusher mantle for your primary crusher—ask for the actual production date, not just the lead time.
Some suppliers keep inventory. Others order from the foundry when you place the PO. Ask: “Is this part in stock at your warehouse, or does it need to be cast?” If it’s a cast-to-order part, ask when the next foundry run is scheduled. If they can’t tell you, that’s a problem.

This sounds like a small thing. It’s not. A 2-ton cone crusher mantle needs proper crate packaging. If it’s strapped to a pallet with plastic wrap, you risk damage in transit. I’ve had a part arrive with a bent mounting ear because of inadequate packaging. That meant a return, a re-order, and 10 days of downtime.
Ask for a packaging diagram or at least a description: “Is it in a wooden crate with internal bracing? Or just wrapped and strapped?”
Checkpoint: Supplier provides packaging details. If it’s not crated, request it. Most will do it for a small fee or free if you ask.
OEM parts from Metso carry a manufacturing defect warranty. Aftermarket parts vary wildly. Some offer a “service life guarantee.” That’s meaningless unless they define the conditions—feed gradation, crusher settings, material hardness.
I once bought “warranty-covered” blow bars for an NP1520 impact crusher. The warranty excluded “abrasive wear.” Which is the main cause of failure in an impact crusher. So the warranty covered nothing. Read the fine print before you sign.
Checkpoint: Warranty terms explicitly stated in writing, with no exclusions that contradict normal operation.
If you’re ordering crusher wear parts, it’s a good time to check your IC70C control board or sensor. Not a priority? Neither was the $1,200 cable I needed replaced after a water leak. Took three weeks to get the correct harness.
Ask the parts specialist: “While I’m ordering the mantle, can you quote the cable assembly for the position sensor?” It costs nothing to ask. It might save you an emergency order later.

Metso licenses certain older designs to third-party foundries. These are genuine in the sense of being made to OEM drawings, but they’re not manufactured by Metso. They’re often cheaper. But the quality control path is different. If the part fails, you deal with the foundry, not Metso. Know who’s holding the risk.
A C106 jaw crusher from 2010 and a C106 from 2020 share a name, but not all parts are interchangeable. Metso updated the toggle plate design in 2015. Ordering the wrong one means a $200 part costs you a day of downtime. Always reference the serial number.
